    Berlin Schonefeld Airport Car Rental

Berlin Schoenfeld Airport is the second most important airport in Berlin; it was originally a military airport opened to civil flights in 1947, when it started to be considered the most important airport in Eastern Germany.

Berlin Schoenfeld Airport is currently undergoing extension works, with the addition of various buildings and a wide terminal, so that it will become the only airport in the German capital city, with a passenger traffic of about 30 million people versus last year’s about 13 million.

In this phase the construction of a new airstrip, on the southern side of the airport, is also scheduled.

Here you can use international and internal connections to airports like Lisbon, Teheran, Moscow and Cairo. In addition to the national airlines, Berlin Schoenfeld Airport hosts also low-cost companies, such as Ryanair and Easy Jet.

It is about 25 km far from Berlin city centre and, once landed, you can reach the city in about 40 minutes with a rental car, which you can pick up at Berlin Schoenfeld Airport, after having booked it on RentalUp.

    Berlin: what to visit

Once reached the city, thanks to the car rental service at Berlin Schoenfeld Airport, you will have the opportunity to visit many attractions, really interesting from historic, artistic and cultural points of view.

It is enough to mention monuments such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the Cathedral or the Museums Island – that is the Northern tip of the Spree Island – to understand how wide the tourist offer is.

Berlin offers also the possibility to visit Alexanderplatz, that is not only the biggest square in the city, but also the most famous one, christened with this name on the occasion of the visit by the tsar Alexander I in 1805. The former name was Ochsenmarkt, that means “oxen market”, because here the cattle market and the wool market took place.

Right in this square there is a building overlooking Berlin with its 365 metres of height, that is the TV Tower.

Among the museums that are on the Museums Island, you can visit Altes Museum, which dates back to the third decade of XIX century and where you can admire collections of objects and works belonging to Greek, Etruscan and Roman civilizations. In Neues Museum you will find Egyptian findings, such as the bust of Nefertiti and a wide papyrus collection.

It remains just a 1 km trait of the famous Berlin Wall, which was built in 1961 and demolished in 1989. After the reunification of Germany, many local and international artists painted murals with spray cans on it, realising worldwide famous works.

Checkpoint Charlie was another control point at the boundary between the two Germanies: it was completely dismantled and today you can visit its reproduction built in 2000 and characterised by two giant soldiers, one American and one Russian.

One of the cities is Postdam, an authentic artistic city with monuments such as Sanssouci Palace. Spandau, a district located at 10 km from Berlin, is also very interesting: here, you can admire important historic attractions. Sachsenhausen is about 40 km far from the concentration camp and let all generations remember the Second World War horrors.

Taking advantage of the car rental service at Berlin Schoenfeld Airport, you can find also other kinds of attractions in the nearby of the German capital city, like the Tropical Islands Park with a tropical theme, where you can find rainforests and swimming pools, and Wannsee, a region characterised by a fairy atmosphere with a great number of lakes, woods and islets: an ideal destination for those who would like to stay out of the city.

Another city to visit is Luebbenau: here you will have the possibility to enter in close contact with nature, chill out at the spa or enjoy canoe trips. Another place near Berlin is Cottbus, the second biggest city in Brandenburg; it is the seat of one of the most prestigious universities in Germany and here there are also Puecklerpark Branitz and Spremberger Tower. A curiosity: Cottbus is the city from where the Protestant Reformation started with Martin Luther.

Another fascinating and rich in history place is Wittenberg, famous for the homonymous castle and for its university. You cannot miss a visit to other attractions, like the Renaissance Town Hall and the market square, in the middle of which there is a splendid Baroque fountain. In Wittenberg an important festival is held every year, the “Marriage of Luther”, that sometimes has reached also 100,000 visitors, with tourists from all over the world.
