    Treviso: the little Venice

Treviso is a pleasant city crossed by numerous waterways such as the Cagnan, the Sile and the Botteniga, which surround the old town, giving it a special charm.

Piazza dei Signori is the heart of the old town, overlooked by Loggia dei Cavalieri and Palazzo dei Trecento, within which you can admire a stunning room that used to host the meetings of the three hundred councillors during the municipal period. The Buranelli canal and Peschiera island are overlooked by picturesque porticoed houses with frescoed facades.

The Cathedral preserves, instead, masterpieces by Tiziano and Pordenone, above all in the Malchiostro chapel. Art lovers will have the opportunity to visit many museums, such as the Civic Museum in the former Convent of Santa Caterina or the XIV-century Ca’ dei Carraresi, where temporary exhibitions of worldwide relevance are organised.

Arriving by plane, renting a car at Treviso Airport will allow you to move in the surrounding areas freely and easily.

Calmaggiore and the Fontana delle Tette

Both you are in Treviso in transit or for a vacation, you cannot miss to visit the original Fontana delle Tette, a statue consisting of a tub with the typical shape of a shell dominated by the bust of a woman with an imperturbable face, whose breast spouts water. It is a symbol of fertility and prosperity for the city, commissioned by the mayor of Venice Alvise da Ponte in 1559, after a severe drought that afflicted Treviso.

According to tradition, during the proclamation of the new mayor red wine and white wine flowed from the statue’s breast, for the happiness of the citizens. This original fountain is now in the courtyard of Palazzo Zignoli, along the gallery that connects Calle dei Podestà to Calmaggiore, th main street of Treviso which, in the Middle Age, connected the two centres of power: the secular one in Piazza dei Signori and the spiritual one in Piazza Duomo.

    One of the city symbols

    The wonderful land of Treviso

Picked the vehicle up thanks to the car rental service at Treviso Airport, you can exit from the Venetian city and drive towards Venice, the city of love; once crossed the bridge that connects one of the islands to the mainland, you have to continue on foot among the streets (“calli”) and the alleyways which made Venice one of the most famous cities in the world, one of a kind.

Visiting Venice is like losing yourself in a remote time, among legends and traditional stories set in one of the suggestive palaces over the water or in one of the noble buildings of the lagoon city and, perhaps, retracing the most important places of the mythical Casanova’s life.

Treviso is not far neither from some of the most important beaches of the North-East, such as Jesolo, reachable in 40 minutes from Treviso Airport with the car rented with RentalUp; after having enjoyed a day on the beach, you can go to Porto di Piave Vecchia, a small village characterised by a lighthouse and some military buildings dating back to the period of the world wars; the famous Lignano Sabbiadoro is also easily reachable by sea lovers in one hour by car from Treviso.
