Faial, Pico and the central island group
The Caldeira of Faial, a volcanic crater nearly 2 km wide covered in hydrangeas, can be reached from Horta in about 20 minutes by car. From the rim of the caldera, on clear days, the entire island of Pico is visible with its towering volcano.
