What to see in Alicante and the Costa Blanca by car

Alicante is a luminous city overlooking the Mediterranean, dominated by the Santa Barbara Castle which offers panoramic views of the entire bay. The seafront Esplanada de Espana, with its mosaic of colored tiles, is one of the most beautiful in Spain.

By car you explore the Costa Blanca: Benidorm with its beaches and nightlife, Altea with its white and blue historic center, Calpe dominated by the Penon de Ifach. To the south, Elche with its UNESCO World Heritage palm grove and Torrevieja with the pink salt lakes.

The inland holds surprises: Guadalest, a village perched on a rock just 30 km from the coast, and Villena with its imposing castle. Valencia is less than two hours on the A-7 and deserves a full day.

Driving in Alicante and on the Costa Blanca

From the airport to the center of Alicante it takes only 15 minutes on the N-332. The free A-7 (Mediterranean motorway) runs along the entire coast and connects Alicante to Valencia to the north and Murcia to the south.

The Costa Blanca has scenic coastal roads but often busy in summer, especially in the Benidorm-Altea stretches. The toll AP-7 motorway offers a faster alternative for long sections. Parking in tourist resorts can be complicated in high season: look for free municipal parking lots on the outskirts.

The climate on the Costa Blanca is among the mildest in Europe, with over 300 days of sunshine per year. Even in winter temperatures rarely drop below 10 degrees, making car rental a comfortable option all year round.
