Roma Ciampino Airport
The history of Rome Ciampino Airport started in the early XX century, precisely in 1916, when an airships yard was born in the area of the current airport. During the 1920s, one of the future airports of Rome began to take shape. Originally, as well as it happened for the major Italian airports, it was transformed in a military airport and became a civil airport since the 1930s.
Nowadays the airport has less passenger traffic than in the past, due to the birth of another airport – Rome Fiumicino – but it still hosts a great number of passengers, thanks to the presence of many airlines, which grant connections to the main Italian cities and foreign countries. You have to drive about 25 km, to get to Rome city centre from Ciampino Airport.

A walking in Castel Sant’Angelo Quarter, on the Tiber embankment
Once landed in Ciampino Airport and picked the rental car up, after having booked it on RentalUp, you can go to discover the city of Rome. Among the many places you can visit, it is worth to dwell on Castel Sant’Angelo Quarter, one of the most interesting areas in the city from the cultural and historic points of view: obviously you must admire here Castel Sant’Angelo, also known as Mausoleo di Adriano and placed on one side of the Tiber.
It is one of the few buildings of the Roman era which are still untouched and, throughout history, it was used for different aims: built as a funerary monument to Adriano, in the past it was also a prison and a Renaissance dwelling and today it is one of the most important museums in the Italian capital city. In the nearby of the castle, there is Ponte Sant’Angelo, wanted by Adriano to facilitate the connection to its mausoleum and famous for the presence of various statues, that make the bridge more beautiful and unique.
Among the other places to be visited in this quarter, two symbols of the Italian Republic must be mentioned: Palazzo della Consulta, the seat of the Constitutional Court, and Palazzo di Giustizia, symbol of the Roman judiciary.
Finally, before moving to other quarters of Rome, it is worth a stroll through Piazza Cavour and visiting Ara Pacis, one of the most interesting witnesses of Augustan art.

The picturesque sceneries of Castel Gandolfo
Another place that you cannot miss during a trip in Rome is Castel Gandolfo, famous for having been the summer residence of the Pope throughout the centuries: here you can admire the Church of Madonna del Lago, the Pontifical Palace and the Pontifical villas.
Castel Gandolfo enchants for the surrounding nature and for its elegant old town. The many archaeological sites that you can visit in this area, such as the emissary of lake Albano and the remains of the Villa of Domitian, are also of great interest.
