Rent a car at Turin Airport

Renting a car at Turin Airport could be an essential need for many people: not only workers who come in Piemonte’s chief town for business, but also Italian and foreign tourists, who need a vehicle to move through the city.

Turin Airport

The Turin civil airport was inaugurated in 1953 on the former camp meant for military trainings during the Second World War. Throughout the years, various works were made to enhance the airport and to offer scheduled flights to the main city of Piemonte.

In the 1970s the control and security service was added to grant the flights a full operativity, even in case of bad weather. The various restoration works made the airport modern and state-of-the-art; in 1994 the old control tower was demolished and in 2005 a new terminal was inaugurated, in occasion of the winter Olympic Games.

At Turin Airport you can pick a rental car up, after having booked it on RentalUp, and drive 16 km to get to the city centre.

The Mole Antonelliana

The 167 metres high Mole Antonelliana (named after the architect Alessandro Antonelli, who was commissioned to project it in 1863) is the symbol of Turin.

Originally projected as a synagogue for the Jewish community of Turin, the Mole Antonelliana has never fulfilled this function and it was soon acquired by the Municipality. The structure is made by reinforced concrete and steel beams, which make it strong and majestic.

The building is characterised by a mix of architectonic styles, such as the neoclassic and the neogothic ones, that make it unique. It hosts the National Museum of Cinema, one of the main attractions of the city.

The museum is organised in 5 rooms, where the evolution of cinematography is told through the exposition of the first devices used for filming and video editing. Galleria dei Manifesti is particularly interesting: it reproduces the faces of the main actors and actresses.

The Mole Antonelliana is very famous also for its dome, reachable both by foot (according to specific security conditions) or by a panoramic lift, which was inaugurated in 1961 on the occasion of the celebration of centenary of the Unification of Italy.

Turin Old Town

The heart of Turin is Piazza San Carlo, which is considered the city’s salon. The square is rectangular in shape and is surrounded by valuable buildings, churches, historical cafes, like Caffè San Carlo, the first bar in Italy where gas lighting was installed, and Caffè Torino, famous for its distinguished visitors, such as Pavese and De Gasperi.

The monument in honour of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, made in 1838 by Marocchetti, stands in the middle of the square. The statue represents the Duke Emanuele Filiberto while sheathing his sword, after the famous battle of San Quintino.

Another marvellous square of the Piemonte’s chief town is Piazza Castello, from where the 4 most important streets of the city branch off: Via Po, Via Pietro Micca, Via Roma and Via Garibaldi, this latter being one of the longest pedestrian street in Europe.

In Piazza Castello you will have the opportunity to visit the Royal Palace, The Royal Theatre, one of the most important lyrical theatres in Italy, Palazzo Madama and the Real Chiesa di San Lorenzo, original seat of the Holy Shroud, now preserved in the Cathedral of Turin, in Piazza San Giovanni.

In short, it is a city that is worth to be visited throughout the length and breadth, but, being a very big city, it requires many and fast moves. For this reason, renting a low-cost car could be a great opportunity to move freely and in complete comfort from one to another side of the city.

The opportunity to rent a car at Turin Airport allows you firstly to save money and secondly to manage autonomously your moves, freely choosing what to visit.
